Surgery that is designed to correct orthodontic problems that cannot be treated with braces, cleft palates, sleep apnea, TMJ or other conditions of the jaw and face related to structure and growth is called orthognathic surgery. This surgery involved cutting and realigning bones in the jaw which are then held in their new location by plates and screws.
